This is always a very hectic time of year, with the school musical production occuring the same time as contest entries. Students have been multi-tasking and swtiching back and forth between multiple projects. 6th, 7th and 8th grade Visual Art classes have been on fabulous Field Trips, and the annual exhibition is in the back of everyone's mind!
The Yearbook is nearly complete, so some students are now working on the graduation video, while others have transitioned to working on art projects, some associated with the play, some not.
6th Grade: The unit on Art History is nearly complete. Our student/artists had a blast performing the artist interviews they wrote. We have quite a few budding comedians in our midst. Students who have not yet finished the genre project are doing so. Students who have completed the project are working on visuals for the play. Our next big design unit will be on pattern. We have several fun projects coming up for this unit!
7th Grade: Integrated with the Judaic Studies unit, this time of year we focus on the Holocaust, and entries for the GA Commission on the Holocaust Art Contest. I am glad not to be a judge - there are too many outstanding pieces to choose from! Following the completion of these images we begin a unit on texture and collage.
8th Grade: The glass slumping project has been a fun learning experience. The pieces are in the kiln for the 3rd time, which we hope will be a charm. In addition, students selected from four contests to enter. The entries will be on their way soon, and all have differing selection dates. After completing beautiful wall posters for the musical production, this class learned the difficult art of scratchboard. Soon they will be experimenting with mosaics and painting on pressed bark.
Digital Studio: The recent weather anomalies made for a great opportunity to capture some fun images. At last the iMovies are complete, and now the class is learning about the Scratch software, created at MIT which teaches basic computer programming. Understanding how software works has been an eye opening experience for these students.
