6th Grade Art: The unit on patterning continues. After creating lighthouses using multiple papered patterns, the students took cues from the natural world to create masks using both pattern and texture. The display of the masks is on the ground floor bulletin boards. Next is a series of projects based on weaving (patterning in 2 directions.)
7th Grade Art: Just prior to the D.C. adventure, the students completed their amazing texture paintings. These paintings had to contain 90% texture, 10% smooth surface, adhere to a limited color palette, and use principles of composition for balance. The results are extraordinary! These paintings are not to be missed, and are hanging on the ground floor walls. Next is a study of collage, based on the work of Eric Carle, artist and author.
8th Grade Art: The students have been preparing for a project that will remain in the school. Mosaic images of the symbols of the 12 Tribes of Israel is in progress. If you have not yet seen the scratchboard images of animals/people hanging in the upper stairwell, take the time to look. Scratchboard is an unforgiving medium - but our students have produced beautiful artwork!
Digital: The unit on programming continues. Students first learned the basics of Java programming code using Scratch software. Now they are learning the basics of Alice. Understanding the technology will give the students the base they need to understanding programming in any language. Our fabulous Field Trip occurs Thursday. Uniform attire, please, and bring money for lunch.
