11/9 - 11/13

1st per/Yearbook:
Mr. Cornelius will be here on Tuesday. You will receive the group feedback on Wednesday. Mrs. Stein will upload the new images for you by Wednesday.

TAKE PHOTOS! You may use a Digital Studio camera - as long as Mrs. Stein knows you have checked it out from the art room. Think about a regular day in the Middle School building.

3rd per/6th Gr Beginning: Learning to draw realistical
ly: separating objects into their planes
REMEMBER: Every time there is a change in plane, there is a change in the direction of the mark!! All marks WITHIN a plane must go in the same direction.

Once your painting of 3 objects is complete, you are using soft pastels to draw the bags on the still life. Think about color - the background should move back in space - so a cool color makes more sense than a warm one. Your bag needs to have a pattern of some kind. Watch how the pattern moves across the planes, especially at creases and folds.

On Tuesdays you will now be attending Study Skills sessions in the large computer lab.

4th per/7th Gr Intermediate:
Prepare for your oral presentation. These continue through next week. The next art project associated with the art history unit is a self-portrait painting in the Fauve style. Once you have transferred the first draft using the grid lines, you will be enlarging yourself. This is tricky - take your time and really look at the negative spaces between facial features.

On Tuesday, 11/10 Mrs. Stein will be showing a special presentation about the Fauves. Be on time, so you don't miss any of it.

On Monday, 11/16 the class will be going on a Field Trip. Permission forms will be sent to your school email. Look for them beginning Tuesday afternoon.

6th per/8th Gr Advanced: You should have completed your initial charcoal drawing from the still life. Your final image will be painted in acrylic paint, using lots of transparent layers.

SKETCHBOOK EXERCISE: Due Monday 11/16

  1. Write your name in cursive using your DOMINANT hand.
  2. Write the mirror image (do not write backwards) of your name.
  3. Write the new words (some of the letters may be reversed) using your NON-DOMINANT hand.

8th Per/Digital Studio: I can't wait to laminate and bind the books you have made. Super job!

We will be holding off on the iMovie project until our new cameras and memory cards come in. Instead, we will be moving to a unit of studying famous photographers. You will hear about this on Thursday.
