1st Period Art/Sixth Grade Beginning: After completing projects with line using watercolor and pattern/repetition usng tempera paints, the students learned about using the right side of the brain (the creative, non-analytical side) to concentrate on seeing objects as they really are. You may have heard them mention upside-down and blind-contour drawing. The are learning the vocabulary of the artist. Next, they will be learning to see negative and positive space, doing a drawing of hangers, hoops, and baskets which will be painted in a final draft.
3rd Period Art/Seventh Grade Intermediate: These students already have their groove back! After competing a charcoal and conte drawing of organic line (philadendron), they began perfecting drawings of their shoe of choice which will be placed on a background of inorganic line for contrast. These images will be painted with watercolor, using liquid frisket to mask white areas. Following the completion of this image, the seventh grade will begin a unit on light/shadow/value/chiaroscuro.
5th Period Art/Eighth Grade Advanced: If you have not seen the lobby windows and the new glass doors in the lower level, please stop by. These paintings are beautiful, and bring a lovely spirituality to the building. Beginning a study of more mundane but critical concept learning, the advanced students are examining the use of proportion, ratio and fractals in their compositions.
SKETCHBOOK EXERCISE 3: Due 9/7 Draw a blind contour image of crumpled/wrinkled clothing or fabric.
6th Period/Digital Studio: At long last, after completing the introductory unit on terminology, the Digital students took a variety of photos that describe the building, began to learn about objective criticism, used iPhoto, and are now learning Photoshop. We've been busy!
8th Period/Yearbook: The team did a great job coming to consensus for a theme. They have begun learning the Jostens software, and may work on the digital pages online whenever they wish. Soon, we will provide page assignments and the "real" work begins! Spread the word that picture day for portraits (TEAL SHIRTS!!!) is September 14.
L'shanah tovah to you and your family! G'mar hatimah tovah...an easy fast.
