st Period Art/Sixth Grade Beginning: Students are "taking a break" from 2-D art, and are working on mugs that will be donated to Project Connect's Empty Bowl Dinner later in the year. This event raises money for the local homeless families who are struggling to survive. In our economy, helping the growing numbers of the needy is on the forefront of our minds. Scheduled to coincide with Operation Isaiah, the mug project helps our students understand just how important it is for us to help however we are able,
rd Period Art/Seventh Grade Intermediate: The contour shoe drawings are incredible! Take a moment to see them on the lower level of the MS. Now students are learning to see subtle changes in light and shifts in the values that occur in shadows. Completing a 'painting' in pastel, they are learnig to layer color to achieve dramatic results. In addition, they are studying chairoscuro, and the masters of the genre, Rembrandt and Georges de la Tour.
th Period Art/Eighth Grade Advanced: After creating three paper compositions based on the Golden Section/the ratio of Phi, students are tackling a final piece in this unit using watercolor. This extremely challenging and advanced concept is not for those with confidence issues. Being able to utilize the Golden Section in art requires high level thinking, and conceptualization skills. Kudos for these young ladies and men for giving their all to master the concept.
SKETCHBOOK EXERCISE 4: Due 9/22/10 Draw an architectural rendering of a building inspired by something from nature, without concern for engineering or physics.
th Period/Digital Studio: The first Photoshop project is a resounding success! Come see our Wall of Shame -- our cast of villains (otherwise known as Wanted posters) is hanging in the lower stairwell. Next up will be a comparison of iPhoto and Photoshop, then a portfolio project that challenges students to think about themselves in ways OTHER than their physical image.
th Period/ Yearbook: The "real" work has begun. Get those portrait pages done! Take note of your deadlines, please!
