7th Grade/Intermediate: Students are still in the thick of an extended unit on color theory. The next project will involve the work of artist Ellsworth Kelly, who changed the way we think about the relationship between the form of an object and its color.
8th Grade/Advanced: I am so excited to bisque fire the incredible containers/lids that the students have made. These pieces are unique to each student, and are truly amazing work for such young artists. While we wait for the pieces to air dry, the class learned about artist Alexander Calder, a man who prepared for a career in engineering, but found his way into the world of abstract art. The students will create 3 pieces based on Calder's work: a paper sculpture that stands on its own, a stabile, and a mobile with free-rotating pieces created with clay.
Sketchbook Due 10/27: Your page must include all of the following requirements:
- A repeating color pattern
- A repeating shape
- Radial balance
- An obvious foreground and obvious background
- A leading eye line
- Fill the entire page
Digital: At last the enormous Photographic Autobiography piece is complete! These books will be displated in the media center. Be sure to take a look, and see if you can identify which student's images you are enjoying! When the 6th graders return from their trip, the class will begin learning about Adobe Illustrator, how to choose when to use Photoshop and when to use Illustrator, and ultimately create a piece of graphic artwork using both programs.
Yearbook: The book is really starting to come together! Keep checking back for casual photos, placing them on your pages. Portrait photos will be in soon.
